Our Purpose and Values Matter
God established his church in the world for one purpose – making disciples in all the world (Matthew 28:19-20), also known as the Great Commission. In this sense, Windom Evangelical Free Church exists to accomplish the end that every church should exist for! For our unity and clarity, our leaders and congregation affirm a purpose statement which puts Jesus’ command to the church in Matthew 28 in our own words.
At Windom Evangelical Free Church, we also have specific core values that guide the direction of our church. These five values express how we accomplish our God-given purpose, the Great Commission, because what we do is only as impactful as how we go about doing it. We strongly believe God cares just as much about process as he does results. Our five core values express how we go about living as God’s church.
Even though we desire that everything in our church represents our five core values, we recognize that we imperfectly model them. By the grace of God, our five core values are both who we are and who we want to become. If you are wondering what to expect from Windom Evangelical Free Church, we hope these characteristics shine through in our work, fellowship, families, and community.
The Windom Evangelical Free Church will have as its purpose the following statement:
God in his grace and mercy demonstrates his eternal purpose through the church. (Ephesians 3:10-11) We will strive to fully participate in this demonstration which will include:
The Spirit bringing unity and peace. (Ephesians 4:3)
The saving of the lost through the cross. (Colossians 2:13-15)
The transforming of those in Christ. (Romans 12:2)
The equipping of each for works of ministry. (Ephesians 4:11- 16)
The Windom Evangelical Free Church agrees that values are statements about how we will accomplish the purposes God has set before us. The “how” of a church will be as important as the “what“ of ministry. Therefore, We at The Windom Evangelical Free Church value the following:
The Bible – We will allow the Bible to master us as we believe the Word, claim the Word and obey the Word. (II Timothy 3:16,17)
Prayer – We will be dependent on prayer as a need for all aspects of our lives and ministry. (Ephesians 6:18)
Authentic relationships – God most readily brings about life change both in salvation and transformation in the context of authentic relationships. We will strive to “one another” each other and to live out compassion for those in need. (I Peter 1:22)
Worship – All of ministry will result from being God-focused which impacts our intellect, volition and emotions leading to surrender and service. (Matthew 22:37)
Servanthood – In humility before the Lord and others we will determine to demonstrate servant leadership and servant followership. (I Peter 5:2,3; Thessalonians 5:12)
Being part of Windom Evangelical Free Church includes a commitment to these values. We continually seek to grow as a church in our faithfulness to uphold our core values in order to carry out the purpose God has given to his Church throughout the whole world.
